Boot Camp is a place where we work hard on our craft.

Boot Camp works to improve the writer not the story.

Boot Camp is a place for honest, blunt critiques of TEXT.

Boot Camp works steadily, systematically, to a two-week schedule.

Boot Camp Story Critiques have a standard core and a scoring system
allowing the comparing and contrasting of story critiques.

In Boot Camp we do not "agree to disagree". Major differences of
opinion over stories are seriously discussed. Critiques are challenged.

We are often forceful, forthright, and blunt, but flaming is totally banned in Boot Camp

We work to a two-week schedule where members are encouraged
to write a story per session. Members should be writing a story per
month. Many write a story per week. (Excluding Flashes)

ALL STORIES ARE POSTED VIA A SECRETARY AND CRITIQUED AUTHOR BLIND.

Authors are not allowed to defend or explain their stories.

Authors are encouraged to critique their own story as if by someone else.

The Boot Camp "Grid" System is used to mark single stories and
eight or more critiques can be displayed in a single grid to highlight
areas of weakness in the story, or problems of critiquing.

Boot Camp Pro stories get eight full critiques, led by Alex Keegan
and members learn more from critiquing and argument than they
do from receiving critiques of their own work.

Boot Camp is NOT a workshop where stories are posted, critiqued, reworked,
critiqued again, worked more. That is writing by committee.

Occasionally Alex Keegan will dissect, edit, rewrite a piece as a teaching exercise but we do not, as a rule, "workshop" fiction.

Members are encouraged to write a lot and submit a lot. We aim for a minimum of a submission per week.

Members keep a public log of word-counts, pre-log-on, daily, monthly etc.

We keep a writer-based log of stories-written, flashes, submissions, hits, rejections, publications.

We have serious craft discussions, market information and intelligent analysis, competiton information, "submission drives", two scheduled daily flash sessions, regular flash prompts.

We occasionally meet socially and also have short-break intense residential courses in Kingfisher Barn, Newbury, or in Trawsfynnyd, North Wales.
